Jos 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; … but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
This week while running errands, I received a phone call from the big Baptist Church on Cosbuc Street, Holy Trinity. The call came from the office of the missionary from Romania, Cristina. She asked me if I had time to come by her office and speak with an American who was asking questions about her visa for Romania.
Roland and I were close by and dropped in to speak with the young lady. She was an American, there with her Romanian boy friend. After a short conversation we explained what we (Cristina, Roland, and I) knew about the visa process. At that point I told them that there was something much more important than getting the visa, that is “where are you going when you die?”
Then the talk about religion started. She explained she was a devout Catholic, he was an Orthodox, and that only God knows who will go to Heaven. I knew this would to be the only chance I would ever get to speak to these two young people so, I spoke these words which came from 1 John 3:8.
1Jo 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning.
I explained to them how John was talking about continually sinning or doing something over and over that they knew was wrong. I explained to them that everyone does sin, but those who “follow” Christ do not continue in sin. Then I asked them, “Which religion saves you?” The young man was quick to answer “ Orthodoxy”. Before his Catholic girl friend could get real mad at him I said “Jesus Saves, not religion.”
I am writing this because Teresa was reading today about what happens when we do what we think is right. Please don’t be caught on the day you are judged by God playing by your rules, His rules are the only ones that matter, live by them!
“He said, ‘Take now your son…’” (Genesis 22:2)
God’s command is, “Take now,” not later. It is incredible how we debate! We know something is right, but we try to find excuses for not doing it immediately. If we are to climb to the height God reveals, it can never be done later--it must be done now. And the sacrifice must be worked through our will before we actually perform it. Pro 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
